New home, new beginnings & fresh inspiration

Good morning (or other time of day) my lovely friends!

Those of you who follow me in Insta (@willowbertinteriors) will know that we have finally moved house - goodbye Tunbridge Wells, hello Edenbridge. While it has been a wrench to leave our brilliant friends in Tunbridge Wells, moving into a new house has certainly fired up my creativity and got me thinking about the opportunities a new home opens up for us all - once the boxes have gone and the chaos settles down.

Teenage bedrooms

Naturally, as circumstances change and we get older (ahem), our tastes and requirements change. Of course children might come into it, with their maturing tastes, the need for more studying space and a more sophisticated colour scheme that suits their changing personalities; rather than the primary-coloured storage boxes for Lego sets, sports equipment, models, books, toys etc of their pre-teen years. My big focus at the moment is making sure that everyone has a bedroom they feel comfortable and relaxed in, that also reflects their own personalities.

Designing a family space

But let’s return to the main body of the home, the shared spaces where families can grow, build memories, face challenges and just be together - the kitchen and living room. We’ll leave bathrooms for the moment!

I can’t wait to get started on the living room, in the New Year, with its French windows, fireplace, high ceilings and architraves. We’re lucky that we’ve got plenty of period details, so it’s going to be a case of bringing the house back to life with lots of cosy corners, colour and space to be. There’s even an opportunity for a window seat - and you know how we love a window seat.

The kitchen may wait a little longer, it’s great by the way, but I’m looking forward to making it our family’s space.

Making your house your home

The opportunities to put your own stamp on your new house are endless and exciting. Budgets may be tight after all the moving expenses, but we can still get inspiration from magazines, the internet, influencers, new fashions and our own imaginations. I have been using some truly sumptuous fabrics, bold prints and accessories on recent client projects, alongside some gorgeous paints - think pale, soothing greens - and of course, mountains of cosy cushions!

Moving house has been a great opportunity to declutter, to pass along things we have enjoyed having in our home to new owners. I can’t wait to start making changes in our home and to sharing with you, some more of what inspires me.
