THE Project

Working with a bold palette to create a cosy family space - this project has been an absolute delight. The brief included developing ideas for the walls, lighting, flooring, artwork and furniture. Our starting point was to find a wall colour that would complement the client's stunning bespoke bookcase. We settled on a rich navy blue which pairs beautifully with accents of rich mustard yellow.

Without wanting to make the room feel too heavy or dramatic, the scheme was developed to include ideas on how to dress the windows with full-length curtains and a blind. Fortunately, the final metres of a favourite Linwood fabric were procured and the neutral background of the fabric provides a lovely contrast to the darker navy walls. We sourced a fabulous mustard velvet sofa which adds an instant lift to the room, and complemented it with leather armchairs and a footstool in a bold blue geometric weave.

Further pops of colour were added with new table lamps and vibrant lampshades as well as an array of trimmed cushions in coordinating tones. The result is a plush and welcoming family living room that avoids feeling too dark or theatrical. The mustard and blue provide vibrant pops whilst the soft furnishings and abundant pillows keep things feeling downright cosy for the clients and their children.

In order to keep the room feeling cosy we added a bespoke rug with a contrasting border that picks up on the autumnal colour scheme. The muted tones and sumptuous texture underfoot add wonderful warmth. Artwork is still on the agenda - and it will be lovely to add the final flourish to the room, now that the family have had a chance to settle into the space and enjoy its cosiness. I'll be meeting with the clients next week to review their art preferences and select a few key pieces that will perfectly complement the palette.
