Porters Hall
INterior design, Garden annexe, Lingfield
The Project
This was such an exciting project to be involved in - the chance to transform a plain and very functional garage into a multi-purpose garden annexe. Our clients were bound by strict rules which meant the exterior at the front of the building had to remain the same, but we were able to utilise the side that opened up onto the garden to full effect.
The brief for the project was to create a space that could be used in many ways:
Home office workspace - with privacy away from the main house (and kids!)
Ancillary accommodation for visitors, such as grandparents and friends in a warm and cosy space
Changing room with small kitchen and bathroom for when the family were using the garden and pool area
An inviting space - with big TV that the family could retreat to for watching movies all together
We worked closely with a fabulous set of contractors who stripped out the space, installed supporting beams, re-wired, insulated, replaced windows, installed the shower room and kitchenette. Additionally they helped with the bespoke carpentry and decorating.
As the space is primarily being used daily as a home office we wanted to ensure the decor was neutral, but with some colour and also comfort. Working with the Clients we found a fabulous Villa Nova fabrics with a palette that gave a springboard for the rest of the room.

Re-upholstering an old armchair in the textured weave, we created a delightful reading corner which combines a fun floor lamp and side table from Pooky. We used the colours throughout the room in soft furnishings, joinery colour and also artwork.
We added plenty of squishy cushions for the L shaped sofa - which also has storage underneath for all the bedding, for when it needs to transform into a sofa bed.
This project was proof that with planning, excellent contractors and a clear vision you can make small spaces multi-functional and efficient.
