Choosing fabrics for cushion covers
Choosing which fabric to use for your cushions will depend on the purpose, look and feel that you want them to have. There are several types of fabrics to choose from, depending on how you want your cushions made
Cotton cushions - These are soft and lighter than most fabrics. Because they do not fray easily, cotton makes great heirlooms meant to last longer than some people's lifetimes. However, they can be expensive and harder to find, since they are usually made to order. They can also take a long time to make because of their embellishments and embellishment methods used for them, such as smocking or embroidery
Linen cushions - These offer a very crisp look that is perfect for the colder seasons where you tend to gravitate towards heavier fabrics. It will give your couch a brightening effect if it has dark upholstery. Linen also comes in many different designs and patterns.
Polyester - This fabric is great if you want your cushion to have an elegant yet casual feel. Polyester tends to be easy-care as well as durable, so it won't be worn easily over time.
Faux suede - This material is ideal for those who want a soft and plush feel. It has a velvety surface that gives off the illusion of real suede, but it lacks the high maintenance and much lower cost that comes with it. You can find this fabric in many colors and designs as well.
Rattan/ wicker - These kinds of cushions are great if you want to make your living room look more tropical or naturalistic. They can be made either by hand or machine, depending on how much money you have to spend, but they will typically last longer because rattan doesn't wear easily especially if treated properly
In addition to these fabrics, there are other types that you can choose from, such as seagrass and sisal.
They each have their own unique style and the feel of them will be different from one another. Make sure to consider your requirements carefully when choosing which fabric you would like to use for your cushions.
